Today, we'd like to introduce the '40s Military Sweat Pant, beloved by Nigel enthusiasts.
- Sweatshirts made on old-fashioned knitting machines -
20.5oz jersey boasts some of the best heat retaining attributes of any sweatshirt.
This 20.5oz jersey is produced on an old-fashioned Azuma knitting machine manufactured in the early 1970s.
Old-fashioned knitting machines must be used at a slower pace than modern machines, so few manufacturers use them.
Not only are they inefficient, but there are also very few artisans who are able to adjust the conditions for old-fashioned knitting machines.
However, Nigel Cabourn is committed to manufacturing on these knitting machines.
This is because "knitting at a slower speed" further enhances the fluffy texture unique to sweatshirt material, resulting in the ultimate sweatshirt fabric with strong firmness.
The warmth provided by the incredible weight and the fluffy comfort that can only be achieved on old-fashioned knitting machines are likely the reasons for the popularity of this series.
- Vintage-inspired design -
This product has a simple look, but it's actually packed with interesting features.
It incorporates many vintage-inspired designs.
The waist features a three-tiered rib structure inspired by training wear for excellent hold.
The vintage version did not have an elastic waistband, so Nigel Cabourn has added his own twist to this design.
It's practical and designed for modern wear, and the two-tone design accentuates the design.
There is a size tab on the back, as you can see.
This design originally had size stamps and tags so that soldiers could tell the size at a glance when they were issued, so we've incorporated that into our products.
The size tab gives the garment a vintage-like feel.
The hem features a drawstring with a broad arrow, signifying that the garment is British government property.
You can wear it cinched in, or rolled up to take advantage of the 20.5oz thickness.

What we'd like you to pay particular attention to are the knee patches.
If you look closely, you'll see that they're positioned asymmetrically.
This is because at the time, many soldiers would crouch down while working, and as a result, only the patch on the kneeling side would droop downward. This could also be due to twisting from washing, but it seems that some vintage pieces do have this problem.
Nigel Cabourn has even seen this accidental distortion as part of the design.
The knee pads are made with two layers of fabric to prevent them from sagging.
The lining is flat-seamed, so you can rest assured that they're not stiff or stressful to wear.
